WordPress Database Backup
As we have mentioned before, if you are using WordPress, or any other content management system, it is wise to make a periodic backup of your database. Database backups could be used to recreate your website in the event of an outage, shutdown, loss, hack or general scripting error.
Fortunately, with WordPress, there are many trusted tools (plugins) that assist with this seemingly overwhelming task. Let’s explore how to easily make a backup copy of your database and even schedule backups to be made automatically and emailed to you based on your schedule.
First, you need to login to the administrator side of your website, which should be very familiar but just in case, can be done by visiting < http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin >. Enter your user name and password and you’re in.
Next we need to install the easy to use plugin called WP-DB-Backup (my favorite and most trusted). This will help you create a backup of your WordPress database.
1) Hover over “Plugins” and find the triangle, click to twirl down and expose the menu beneath.
2) Click “Add New”
3) Next, do a search for “WP-DB-Backup”
4) Your search should reveal the results below and click “Install Now” to have the plugin automatically installed.

5) Click to “Activate Plugin” and you’re almost there!

6) Next, visit the plugin’s settings and adjust accordingly.
** You can select all the database records you would like to capture. We would recommend all of them just in case anything goes awry.
*** We suggest scheduling a periodic database backup of your WordPress website as well. Often times clients go about their business of blogging and editing pages and they forget to make a backup. We have seen months and weeks of work lost when websites are compromised.
**** Please make a backup of your website BEFORE you do any WordPress upgrades.
